Set a spending limit
A spending limit lets you decide in advance how much of one Vault token may move to Pocket during each reset period. Creating the limit does not move tokens.
Creating, changing, or removing a limit requires Vault approval. A later Move funds to Pocket action stays inside the approved rules and needs only the Pocket passkey, so choose a limit you would be comfortable making available under that one approval method.
When to use a limit
Section titled “When to use a limit”Use a spending limit when you want Pocket to handle a routine amount while the larger balance stays protected in Vault. Limits apply to the selected token and network; they do not create one shared allowance across every network.
The steps below use Cedar Wallet for iOS, where phone approval can finish the change. Before you begin, activate Pocket, complete Vault setup, and select a network where Cedar shows spending limits as available. If you start from the web app, review the change there; Cedar normally asks you to finish it on your trusted phone.
For example, you can keep a larger test-token balance in Vault and set the smaller amount that may move into Pocket each day.
Create a limit
Section titled “Create a limit”- In Cedar Wallet for iOS, open Vault, select a token that offers Spending limits, then choose Spending limits.
- If Cedar shows Network, select the intended network and check the token again.
- Enter the maximum amount for one period.
- Choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Custom for the reset period.
- Choose Set spending limit.
- On Confirm Vault spending limit, review the token, amount, reset period, Pocket, and network. Choose Confirm only if they match what you intended.
- Complete the passkey and phone approvals, then wait for Activity to show that the change completed successfully.
Change or remove a limit
Section titled “Change or remove a limit”- Open Spending limits and find the limit marked Active.
- Choose Manage.
- To change it, choose Update spending limit, then edit the amount or reset period.
- To turn it off, choose Remove spending limit and read the removal notice.
- Choose Update spending limit or Remove spending limit again, review the details, then choose Confirm.
- Complete the Vault approvals and wait for Activity to show that the change completed successfully.
Raising a limit increases what the Pocket passkey may later move without another phone or recovery-phrase approval. Reject an unexpected request; do not raise a limit simply to make it pass.
Move funds to Pocket
Section titled “Move funds to Pocket”Move funds to Pocket transfers an amount permitted by an active limit from Vault to Pocket. It requires the Pocket passkey, but does not ask for phone or recovery-phrase approval again because those rules were approved when the limit was created or changed.
Current Cedar apps cannot start Move funds to Pocket. Setting a limit does not move tokens automatically.
The action can be unavailable when:
- The limit is off.
- Pocket is not active.
- No amount is currently available.
- The limit’s network does not support spending limits.
- The requested amount is too high.
- Vault does not hold enough of the token.
You’re done when
Section titled “You’re done when”- The limit appears as Active with the intended amount and reset period.
- Activity shows that the change completed successfully.
- Removing the limit changes its status to Off.
